Congratulations to all 2008 Chinese Canadian Youth Achievement Award winners!
The 8th Annual Chinese Canadian Youth Achievement Awards was held on January 11th, 2009 at the P.C. Ho Theatre of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto. Over 200 guests joined us to recognize and celebrate the achievements of outstanding and talented youth in the award categories of Performance Arts, Visual Arts, Athletics, and Leadership and Community Service.
With the Year of the Ox approaching, the Awards started off with a lively lion dance performance by Northern Legs Southern Fists. The honoured Madam Zhang MeiFang, Deputy Consul General, was present on behalf of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China to congratulate the winners and their contributions to the Chinese community. The Awards were presented among piano, opera, and flute performances by our Performance Arts winners, as well as a Chinese umbrella dance performance by two lovely guest dancers from Chi-Ping Dance Group. The Reception hall also showcased the creative and beautiful artwork of the Visual Arts winners.
Our guest speakers, university student Shawn Huang and Joseph Shan from Hong Fook Mental Health Association, both spoke about their personal experiences in Sichuan assisting in the recovery effort following the tragic earthquake in 2008. Their touching stories also helped kick off fundraising efforts for the Chinese Cultural Centre's initiative to raise funds for the rebuilding effort.
We are grateful that the 2008 Youth Achievement Awards was a huge success. It was only possible with the support of our sponsors, CCC Directors, and countless volunteers who all helped bring this event together.
